Welcome in Maastricht!
Maastricht, one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. A city that has endured the passage of time with excellence and where you can taste the particular, vibrant culture that has evolved throughout the centuries by Germanic and Roman influences.
Compact City Centre
The centre of Maastricht is very compact and organized. Large parts of the centre are pedestrianized and most of the sights are within walking distance. The St. Servatius Bridge connects the traditional city centre with the trendy area Wyck. You can easily return to the centre from the adjacent Céramique via the “Hoeg Brögk” (high bridge) and the city park. Because you can stroll through charming streets without having too much risk of getting lost, you’re always at ease in Maastricht.
The entire inner city has been given a protected status by the Dutch government. The monumental buildings and the beautiful houses exhibit styles from different eras. Think about remains from Roman times and buildings with facades in the Maastricht Renaissance style. The latter is particularly visible in the typical saddle roofs; the spacious attics were used for food storage during the many sieges.
Even today, the architectural development is still in full swing. You can experience the seamless passage from historical monuments and ancient facades to modern architecture and the monuments of the future.
